Thunderstorm Safety Tips
Unplug
any appliances or electronic equipment well before a thunderstorm
threatens.
- Don't touch electrical equipment or cords during a
thunderstorm.
- Avoid plumbing. Do not wash your hands, take a shower or wash
dishes.
- Stay away from windows and doors, and stay off porches during a
thunderstorm.
- Torrential rains can cause flash flooding, avoid low water
crossings and do not drive through water on the roadway.
- Monitor your local TV, radio station or weather station for
updates and messages.
- Have an emergency kit with a flash light available in the event
of power outages.
- Avoid downed power lines (if trapped in your vehicle by a power line stay in the vehicle and avoid touching any metal components until help arrives.)
